June 6, 2001; Louis Epstein was just informed by Dr. Jean-Marie Robine of France that Madam Marie Brémont, born in Noellet, Maine-et-Loire, France on April 25, 1886, died today at the age of 115 years, 42 days. She became the oldest living person in France following the death of Jeanne Dumaine on January 3, 1999 and the world's oldest living person om November 2, 2000, following the death of Eva Morris. She remains the second oldest person ever from France and one of the top 10 oldest European people ever. This just in from AP Wire Services.
Born as Marie Marthe Augustine Mesange, Bremont began working on a farm at the age of 8. After moving to Paris at the age of 20, she married Constant Lemaitre at Versailles in 1910. After he died in World War I, she worked in a wide variety of jobs including time as a pharmaceutical factory worker, a nanny and a seamstress. She then married Florentin Bremont in 1936 and was widowed for a second time in 1967. She had no children. At the age of 103, she suffered a broken arm as a result of being hit by a car, but surprised doctors by making a full recovery. On her 115th birthday, Bremont dressed up in a red suit and shared strawberry cake and white wine with friends. By this time, although her sight and hearing had deteriorated, Bremont was "proud to be the doyenne of humanity."

February 21, 2017; Emma Duvoisin was born in Bern, Switzerland on July 5, 1886 and died in Geneva, Switzerland on September 30, 1997 at the age of 111 years, 87 days. She became the oldest living person in Switzerland on November 18, 1994, following the death of Cecile Ida Ritter. Twenty years after her death, Duvoisin remains the oldest person ever born in Switzerland and the third oldest person to die in Switzerland.

She never married and lived to be Ireland's oldest person, dying on April 5, 1996, at Fermoy, County Cork, Ireland, at the age of 110 years 94 days.

March 20, 2017; Denzo Ishizaki was born in Japan on October 20, 1886 and died in Kansago, Ibaraki, Japan on April 29, 1999 at the age of 112 years, 191 days. He became the oldest living man in Japan on January 24, 1997, following the death of Gengan Tonaki. He became the oldest living man in the world on December 25, 1998, following the death of Walter Richardson. On January 15, 1999, he passed the final age of Gengan Tonaki and became the oldest Japanese man ever. He became the oldest living person in Japan on February 12, 1999, following the death of Yasu Akino. His Japanese male longevity record was broken by Yukichi Chuganji in 2001.
Denzo Ishizaki worked as an elementary school teacher and briefly served as a town assembly member. He was in excellent health up to the age of 110, but his health deteriorated after injuring his hip in 1997.
