July 26, 2014; Violet Brown was born on March 10, 1900, in Duanvale, Trelawny Parish, Jamaica, according to a birth record registered on March 29, 1900. She continues to live in Duanvale, Jamaica. She is the first validated Jamaican supercentenarian case, and at this time, is the 7th oldest living validated person in the world.
October 15, 2017; Violet Brown died on September 15, 2017 at the age of 117 years, 189 days. She became the oldest living person in the world upon the death of Emma Morano on April 15, 2017. At the time of her death, she was the oldest person ever from the West Indies, the oldest verified person to live in the 21st century and the oldest undisputed black person ever.
Brown was born as Violet Moss in Duanvale, Trelawny Parish, Jamaica on March 10, 1900. She was baptized at age 13 at the Trittonvale Baptist Church and remained a member throughout her life, long serving as an organist. She married Augustus Brown and had one daughter with him. In addition, she had six other children, the oldest of whom, Harold Fairweather, died in April 2017 at the age of 97. He is believed to be the oldest person ever with a living parent at the time of his death. Brown spent much of her life cutting sugar cane near her home in the Duanvale district. Her husband Augustus died in 1978.
On her 110th birthday, aside from deafness, Violet was reported as being in good overall physical shape. She stated that she didn't feel her age, and attributed her long life to God, respecting her parents, working hard and eating coconut sauce. Her favourite pastimes include going to church, reading books and listening to music. At the age of 113, Brown was still in excellent overall health, with her memory still intact. At age 115, she was still able to walk (with the help of a walker) and could read without any glasses. In an interview this year with The Associated Press, Brown said she was surprised but grateful to have lived so long. "This is what God has given me, so I have to take it," she said.

GRG Belgian International Correspondents Messrs. Peter Vermaelen, Bart Versieck, and
Anthony Croes-Lacroix met with many of Germaine's relatives, including Granddaughter
Marie-Christine, Grandson Jacky, and Great Great Grand Daughter ~2 months old. In all, five
generations were represented. The Mayor of Binche (Devin) was also present with other
representatives from the local town hall. Two Belgian national television networks, one regional
network, and several print journalists attended as well. Germaine is a bit deaf since last year, but
she is still very alert and in good mental shape. She is the sixth Belgian person to reach the

Antonia Gerena Rivera was born in Loiza, Puerto Rico on May 19, 1900 and died in Miami, Florida, United States on June 2, 2015 at the age of 115 years, 14 days. She was the oldest woman ever from Puerto Rico (but not the oldest person, as Emiliano Mercado del Toro was older) and the oldest person ever to live in Florida. At the time of her death, she was also the third oldest living person in the United States and the fifth oldest living person in the world. Gerena Rivera outlived seven of her nine children, the first of which was born in 1917. a member of the Jehovah's Witness church, Antonia Gerena Rivera heralds from a long lived family which included two centenarian siblings. Her family described her as a "strong and hard working woman" and put her longevity down to "genes and brandy."

At the time of his death, Sisnett was the oldest verified man in the Western Hemisphere, the second-oldest man in the world, and the 12th oldest person overall. September 28, 2015; Nabi Tajima became the oldest living person in Japan on September 27, 2015, following the death of an annonymous woman from Tokyo.
April 22, 2018; Nabi Tajima died on April 21 at the age of 117 years, 260 days. She had nine children and 160 descendants, including great-great-great grandchildren. At the time of her death, she was living in the town of Kikai on Kyushu, the southernmost of Japan's four main islands.
Nabi Tajima's secret to longevity was "eating delicious things and sleeping well". She danced with her hands at the sound of a samisen, a traditional three-string instrument. "She passed away as if falling asleep. As she had been a hard worker, I want to tell her 'rest well,'" said Tajima's 65-year-old grandson Hiroyuki.
At the time of her death, Tajima was the oldest Japanese person ever, the third oldest verified person ever and the oldest person to live in the 21st century.

She was raised by her grandmother, Rachel Herring, and her uncle & aunt, Arthur & Annie (Walker) Herring. Carrie Etta Herring married Joel Walker, her aunt's brother, on May 20, 1917, and they had seventeen children. Thirteen lived to adulthood, and nine were still living when their mother, Carrie Herring Walker, died on January 8, 2011, in Pender County, North Carolina at the age of 110 years 100 days old.
