UCLA Meeting Held on October 30, 1998

Leading California scientists gathered for a unique community event hosted by Ms. Whoopi Goldberg on the UCLA Campus last Friday, October 30, 1998 from 1:00 - 6:00 PM to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI). We were able to acknowledge the great advances in medicine that have come about through our long standing public investment in biomedical research. Guest speakers included:

• The Hon. Henry Waxman, California Congressman from the 29th District
• Dr. Valentin Fuster, President of the American Heart Association
• Dr. Claude Lenfant, Director, National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute
